PROJECT OVERVIEW

In Tamworth, a new single-form entry primary and nursery school is helping meet growing demand for places in a fast-expanding housing estate, and TJ Brayne’s groundworks and civils package played its part in the construction process. Appointed as the groundworks construction and civils subcontractor to G F Tomlinson, TJ Brayne supported the £6.5m Dunstall Park Primary School scheme.

‍

Delivered on behalf of Staffordshire County Council, in partnership with Entrust - the 1,500 square metre, two-storey building comprises of seven classrooms, a separate nursery and practical area, staff offices and an indoor sports and dining hall, with capacity to expand to 315 placements as the surrounding area continues to grow.

‍

TJ Brayne’s scope covered the essential below-ground and external infrastructure needed to get the school out of the ground, including foundations, attenuation tanks, the site's drainage network, incoming services and wider external works - supporting the new pedestrian and vehicular routes, play areas and extensive playing field that now surround the finished building.

Key objective

TJ Brayne’s objective on Dunstall Park Primary School was to lay a fully development-ready platform, giving G F Tomlinson the foundation needed to construct the building’s exterior and interior with menial disruption to the wider programme.

‍

As the appointed groundworks and civils subcontractor, our role was central to achieving this. Solid foundations and incoming services needed to be in place early to keep the build programme on track - while a carefully designed drainage network and attenuation tanks would manage surface water across the site. TJ Brayne delivered the dependable platform to build from.

‍

Completed in time for the new academic year, the school now accommodates local demand for primary and nursery  places in Tamworth, with capacity to expand to 315 placements as the surrounding housing development grows.
