PROJECT OVERVIEW

Stoke-On-Trent's Haywood Hospital now has a new home for outpatient care, and TJ Brayne played a key role in getting it there. Brought on board by Key Construction as groundworks and civils subcontractor, TJ Brayne supported the £28.4m project delivered on behalf of Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

‍

TJ Brayne's scope covered the full groundworks and external infrastructure package needed to get the new building out of the ground, including foundations, an attenuation tank system, the site's drainage network, incoming services and wider external works. This early infrastructure package formed an essential first stage of the build, helping ensure Key Construction could progress the new facility, which has since opened to patients following construction that began in early 2024.

Key objectives

The wider objective behind the scheme was to eradicate the safety risk posed by Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete in the roof of the former outpatients building - unlocking £17.4m in NHS England funding to replace it entirely, rather than attempt a repair, with a modern, fit-for-the-future facility for Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

‍

TJ Brayne's objective was to deliver the reliable groundworks and infrastructure that this replacement depended on. With foundations, an attenuation tank system, the site's drainage network, incoming services and external works all needing to be in place before the new two-storey building could rise, getting this early stage right was essential to keeping the wider RAAC replacement on track and minimising disruption to the rest of the live hospital site.
